(Owner/Director)
A little bit about me…..
Kim was a gymnast for 11 years and has been teaching for
over 20 years. She graduated from CSU Sacramento with a
Bachelor's Degree in Psychology and a minor in Business
Administration. She enjoys the "Biggest Loser", going to movies, playing
sports, and laughing. Kim says what she enjoys most about
working at Byers Gymnastics is "Watching
the improvement of the gymnasts
and the great support of the staff."

Dana
Dickson (Gym
Director- Citrus Heights)
A little bit about me…..
Dana Dickson has been coaching gymnastics for 7 years.
Dana joined the Byers Gang this past year and has been a
wonderful part of the Staff. In addition to working with
our preschool and Girls Basic programs, Dana has been heavily
involved with our Gymnastics for Children with Autism.
Dana describes herself as energetic, enthusiastic, and happy.
She will graduate this May 2010 with her Bachelor of Arts Degree
in Liberal Studies to become an elementary school teacher.
Dana says what she enjoys most about
working at Byers Gymnastics is "I
love teaching children the skills for the sport and also
self-confidence to help them in their lives."
Kelsey Frey
(Preschool thru Level 4 Team)
A little bit about me…..
Kelsey has been with Byers Gym for over 5 years. She
began her gymnastics career in Louisiana where she was born.
When she moved to California, she discovered Byers Gymnastics
Center and has never looked back. After competing through
Level 6, she joined our coaching staff two years ago.
Kelsey has also been involved with Diving and just became part
of our Team Coaching Staff this past year, working with our new
Level 4s. Kelsey says loves coaching gymnastics because "She
loves working with children and loves the excitement she gets
from the kids when they learn a new skill."
Kylie Groves (Girls Basic Instructor)
A little bit
about me…..
Kylie started gymnastics when she was just 3 years old.
And her love of the sport helped her succeed through Level 9
Western Championships. Throughout her 12 year gymnastic
career, Kylie also cheered competitively for Power and Oakmont
High School. Three years ago Kylie became involved with
Byers Teacher in Training Program and soon became one of our
loved staff members. Kylie says she enjoys gymnastics so
much because of all of the different people she meets, it keeps
her in shape, and it is a very unique type of sport.
Kylie truly enjoys working
with children and says, "I love
to teach kids because now that I know many skills and proper
technique, I can pass that on to children that love the sport of
gymnastics. In addition to her busy schedule, Kylie
joined our Group Gymnastics Team this past year..
Jaclyn
Hawkins (Pre-school - Level 5 Instructor)
A little bit about me…..
Jaclyn loves working with pre-school age children and has
over 10 years experience in the sport of gymnastics. After
retiring from competitive gymnastics last year, Jaclyn landed a
spot on one of Placer United Soccer Club Teams. In addition to
her experiences as a gymnast, she also completed our T'nt
(Teacher in Training) Program and has worked with our Pre-Team
Programs as well. She says that she loves teaching gymnastics
because... "It's rewarding to
know that you helped a child accomplish their gymnastics goals."
In her spare time, Jaclyn dances for Woodcreek High's
Dance Team.
Leonid Konikov (Boys/Girls Basic, Cheer, T&T)
A little bit about me…..
Leonid has been coaching gymnastics for 30 years. He has
been a Team Coach for the Belarus and South African Trampoline
Teams. He has coached many National and World Champions in
Trampoline. Leonid has also been an international judge in
Trampoline. Leonid has been at Byers now since 2001. He is a
lot of fun and the kids just love him!
Mackenzie
Kooyman (Pre-school - Level 5)
A little bit about me…..
Mackenzie has been involved with gymnastics for 9 years.
She is currently training competitive Level 9. Mackenzie is
very dedicated to her sport and kids just love her. Mackenzie
says she loves teaching gymnastics because...
"I enjoy coaching kids because
I love watching them get better and better and progress through
the levels." Outside of the gym, Mackenzie is a straight
'A' student and enjoys music.
Christine
Koscheka (Pre-school - Girls Basic)
A little bit about me…..
Christine was a gymnast at Byers for over 10 years. She
finished her career as a competitive Level 7 gymnast. Christine
says she loves teaching gymnastics because...
"I love teaching kids because I
get to see them having fun with a sport that I grew up loving."
Christine is a huge music buff and loves hanging out
with friends in her spare time.
Laura
Menefee (Pre-school - Level 6)
A little bit about me…..
Laura, a former gymnast and gym owner, is known for her
enthusiasm and ‘Opera’ singing around Byers Gym. Kids can see
the love that she has for the sport as she inspires them with
her words. Laura says she loves teaching gymnastics because,
“I love to see kids learn new
skills. The excitement on their faces when they achieve that
new element is just priceless!” Laura enjoys being
active with her husband and two kids, ages 15 and 8. She also
finds time to paint, take pictures, and play golf and tennis.
Travis Ralph (Boys/Girls Basic - Women's Level 7)
A little
bit about me…..
Travis was a
gymnast at Byers for 10 years and was a Class 5 competitive
gymnast. He has been coaching at Byers for 10 years.
Travis has experience with pre-school age children Boys and
Girls competitive teams. He currently works with Byers
Level 5 and 6 Girls Teams. When Travis is not at Byers, he
spends his time teaching physical education at Rocklin
Elementary School,
playing golf, and is part of a bowling league at Strikes on
Sunday evenings. Travis says what he likes most about teaching
gymnastics is...
"I love coaching kids because I can be having a bad day then
come in to coach and the kids make my day! They are so funny
and a joy to be around."
Laurie
Russi (Pre-Team)
A little bit about me......
Laurie has been involved in Gymnastics for over 30
years. She competed throughout her high school years and
college years. After graduating from
Sacramento State with a bachelor’s degree in Recreation
Administration, Laurie started her own gymnastics
business for local park districts and schools in the
Sacramento area. As a National rated judge, Laurie has been
judging compulsory through college level gymnastics for
over 20 years. Laurie also enjoys traveling, scuba diving, swimming, biking and
spending time with her family. Laurie says she loves
teaching gymnastics because “I love teaching my
students about the mind/body connection, so that
anything they set their mind to is possible."
Dominic
Smith (Kindergym
thru Girls Basic)
A little bit about me......
Dominic joined forces with Byers Gymnastics in 2009.
His background is in Dance (16 years) and has been an
avid Break Dancer for 12 years. He tried out for "So You
Think You Can Dance" this past season and made it
through to the 3rd round. He enjoys teaching
because “the kids learning new skills is very
rewarding and getting to know the kids is great."
Danielle Waters (Pre-school - Level 5)
A little bit about me…..
Danielle is entering her 6th year as a competitive
gymnast at Byers. She will be competing as a Level 9 gymnast.
Her gymnastics experience also encompasses 2 years of
participation in Byers' Tnt (Teacher in Training) Program.
Danielle is very knowledgeable about the sport of gymnastics and
knows how to communicate well with all ages of gymnasts.
Danielle says she loves teaching gymnastics because....
" I love teaching kids because
you can imagine and play with the young ones and when one of my
6 and over students achieves a new skill, it's so rewarding."
Danielle is a straight 'A' student and is part of the 'Dancin'
Feet' program at Roseville High School.
Elaine West
(Girls Basic - Level 8)
A little bit about me…..
Elaine did gymnastics competitively for 12 years. The Gyms that
she attended include Byers Sprites, Gymagic, and Pantheon
Gymnastics. Elaine competed in Acro Sports for 3 years at
Technique Gymnastics, and she taught gymnastics there as well.
She has been at Byers now since 1998. She is currently involved
with the Team program, coaching levels 5 thru 8. Occasionally,
Elaine still likes to tumble and dance in her spare time.
Elaine says that, "I love the
sport of gymnastics and especially teaching at Byers Gymnastics
with all of the positive and enthusiastic coaches and staff."
Miami Whitehouse
(Pre-school thru Girls Basic)
A little bit about me…..
Miami started gymnastics when she was just 3 years old.
She continued her gymnastics career at Byers Gymnastics Center
and succeeded through Level 5. Miami wanted to continue
her passion of gymnastics and so became a part of Byers Staff 2
years ago. In her spare time she enjoys soccer and
Taekwondo. Miami says that, "I love
coaching because I love watching kids improve and seeing their
faces when they achieve a new skill."
